The Gujarat government said that state government employees, who perform coronavirus-related work, will be eligible for 25 lakh rupees compensation should they become infected and die in the line of duty.
The government had previously announced compensation of Rs 25 lakhs to the closest family members of front-line personnel, including police personnel, health and sanitation workers, personnel from the income and food supply department, and merchants to fair prices.
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced that coverage will be extended to all government employees who are involved in work related to the pandemic.
Relatives of such employees would receive compensation of Rs 25 lakh if staff contract the infection and succumb to it, Chief Minister's secretary Ashwani Kumar said.
All contract, fixed-pay or any other Gujarat government employees will be eligible for this compensation package, he said.
Meanwhile, Kumar said that during the 21-day shutdown, the Center had deposited Rs 800 crore into the bank accounts of around 40 lakh farmers in the state under the prime minister's Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, with each farmer receiving Rs 2,000.
