Gujarat NMMS 2025-2026 - State Examination Board, Gandhinagar has posted the online application form at sebexam.org. The National Media cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Exam will be held for Gujarat on January 3, 2026. Students who have secured the position on the merit list published by the admissions authority will only be able to gain admission. Students who have studied in class VII will be considered or eligible for the exam. For more information on Gujarat NMMS 2025-2026 Candidates, please read this page further.

NMMS Scholarship Exam

It is organized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development of the Government of India. It is a centrally sponsored scheme. Under this scheme, the scholarship is awarded to 1,00,000 students (nationwide) selected at the end of class VIII. The aim of the NMMS scheme is to award scholarships to deserving students belonging to economically weaker sections to encourage them to continue their studies until Class XII.


NMMS Eligibility criteria

  • Must have scored 55% or better on Class VII exam (in academic session) and have been promoted to class VIII (in academic session). There is a 5% relaxation in the notes for the reserved category.
  • You must be studying only in public, local and private schools.
  • The income of parents from all sources should not exceed Rs. 1,500,000 / - per year
  • Government-issued parental income certificate. An employer in case the parents are Govt. Employees and affidavit witnessed by Magistrate / Notary in case the parents are in some private service/job must be attached with the form.

  • The NMMS exam consists of two parts, namely (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT) and (b) Academic Aptitude Test (SAT) that covers Science, Social Studies and Mathematics of classes VII and VIII level.
  • Each test has 100 questions.
  • Each question has a mark.

The Centrally Sponsored Scheme “National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS)” was launched in May 2008. The objective of the scheme is to award scholarships to meritorious students of economically weaker sections to arrest their drop out of class VIII and encourage them to continue their studies at the secondary stage. Scholarship of Rs. 12000/- per annum (Rs.1000/- per month) per student is awarded to selected students every year for study in classes from IX to XII in State Government, Government Aided, and local body schools.

National Means Cum Merit Scholarship Exam will be conducted for Gujarat. In order to appear for the exam, the candidate has to submit the Admit Card-Hall Ticket which will be available after submitting the Application Form successfully. The students who have studied in std 8 will be considered or eligible for the examination.

There is a quota of scholarships for different states/UTs. Students whose parental income from all sources is not more than Rs. 1,50,000/- are eligible to avail of the scholarships. There is reservation as per State Government norms. The selection of students awarded the scholarships is made through an examination conducted by the State Governments. Scholarships are disbursed by the State Bank of India directly into the bank accounts of students on a quarterly basis.

The students studying in “Kendriya Vidalayas and “Jawahar Navodaya Vidhyalayas” are not entitled to get scholarships under this scheme. Similarly, those students studying in Residential Schools run by the State Government Institutions, where facilities like boarding, lodging, and education are provided and students studying in private schools are also not eligible for the scholarship under this scheme.

The proposals/list of beneficiaries for the academic year is required to be submitted/ uploaded online over National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

NMMS centrally sponsored scheme is conducted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. A written examination is conducted to hand over a scholarship. Candidates who perform well in the examination, they are given a certain amount of money per annum.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Students must possess 55% percentage marks in the case of the General Category.
  • However, the unreserved category candidate must possess a minimum of 50% marks
  • The parental income of the candidates should not exceed (1.5) Lakh, including all income sources.
